Tulum Destination Wedding at Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa

I was lucky enough to have captured Evan and Shiann’s surprise waterfall proposal last fall at Lower Lewis River Falls in WA. Their proposal and story was even featured over on How he asked not to long ago, so be sure to check it out. Being a Pacific Northwest photographer we have a wide range of landscapes to shoot at but no palm trees, rich blue waters, or clean white sandy beaches. Therefore, I was thrilled when Evan and Shiann asked me to shoot their Tulum Destination Wedding. Tulum is a town located in Mexico about an hour and a half from Cancun and is the perfect spot for an intimate wedding with just close friends and family.
This Tulum Destination Wedding which took place at Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa was the epitome of what you would envision a destination wedding to be like. The groomsmen played sand volleyball, while the girls were prepping for the day, shots of tequila in between getting ready and the ceremony, then finishing with string lights and the ocean breeze at dinner. Like any other wedding there is always some form of speed bump along the way and weather, of course, was a big factor on this day. During the summer months Cancun and Tulum get hit with a lot of rain storms. This isn’t a few sprinkles here and there, but rather a down pour and high strong winds that can come and go in the blink of an eye. There was very high concern from the day of coordinator about having the reception/dinner outside. However, Shiann and Evan were determined to continue with having it outside, and I am so glad they did. What I enjoyed the most is how connected these two were the entire day, just taking in every ounce of them being together.
